Welcome to the London...

Far beneath the busy streets of London, another world was created. It is called the Underground or "Tube" because of the tube-shaped tunnels through which the trains are running at high speeds and short intervals.
The Underground has been fascinating me for a long time. It made it's start in 1863(!) and became the world's first "metro-system". Then it rapidly expanded. Most of the work, as we still know it today, was finished in the year 1906, except for the Victoria Line and some relatively small extensions. Also by 1906, the system had been completely electrified!
Through the years, lots of new technology has been introduced in London's Underground but, even today, the system still strongly remembers the visitor of the "Old Days".
Also, besides being a fast and efficient means of transport, the Underground served as a save shelter against German bombs in World War II...
Anyway, to me it's a masterpiece and I think it therefor deserves some more attention on the Internet!
